chuckie, meet chucky

hahah, i just remembered, one of our related literatures was this one robot named CHUCKY. HAHA! it's a sonar-using robot too minus the map-generation.

http://www.robot-electronics.co.uk/htm/chucky.htm

KAPOOF... KAPISH...

i've been pretty busy the previous days. what have i been doing? thesis.

i still couldn't believe that i would be delayed just because of our thesis. i dunno, maybe it's all my fault, slacking around when i should be busy constructing our robot. actually, come to think of it, i'm not "that" disappointed being delayed. building our robot is no joke, 10 weeks to finish it (the amount of time before the defense) couldn't be accomplished especially when you have other subjects eating up your time. that was a term ago. now, we have no other excuse not to finish it for next term.

what's our thesis all about? we will construct a MOBOT (mobile robot) that is autonomous (meaning independent). what does it do? well, to put it in layman's term, it is AN EXPLORATION ROBOT. it would be deployed in an unknown environment to explore it and at the same time, send sonar feedbacks to the host computer. these sonar data will be used to generate a 2-dimensional map of the unknown environment. simple, NAH! when we searched the library and internet for related litaratures, we found out theat some poeple did manage to finish a robot that does the same thing as ours althoug they are not actually the kind of person you would call simple joes. they are actually doctors of the robotic field! DAMN! were we surprised when we saw that, we almost lost hope. how i wish i never saw those related lits.

so is our thesis THAT hard? at first glance, yes. but we are tackling the project a step at a time. it's actually doable. (the problem is i think we wouldn't be able to finish it within th term) i could say now, we're at the 30% mark. we wouldn't want to rush things. we're already delayed so why rush? our main goal is have this thesis receive the gold at graduation. an alibi good enough for employers. (just like my motto, AIM FOR PERFECTION, SETTLE FOR EXCELLENCE)

i suddenly remembered a song by the rage against the machine...

if you don't take action now, you'll SETTLE FOR NOTHING LATER!

HAHA!

going back to my story, early this week, from monday to thursday morning, we camped at ram's house for our thesis. i did the electronics and mechanical part, ram planned the algorithm for the robot's movement and map generation, antz did experiments on the microcontroller. edward was home studying the motor controller and herbert... hmmm... he well... uhmmm...

in the process of making the motor run, i busted the dual-bridge our thesis adviser lent us. we wouldn't tell her unless she asks for it. LOL. but the loud pop made by the IC kept us awake that night. because of that incident too, i managed to make the two half-bridges we previousl thought was busted work. ram, on the other hand, got his own eureka moments with the program. antz and i also made the sonars, tranciever and electronic compass work and transmitt the data to the host pc. WHOOPEEEDOOO! i could say that was one of the most productive days in our thesis building.

next week, i will be targeting to finish the platform of the robot (the wheelbase and the surface where all the components will be mounted). edward would also be joining us to piece-in his motor controller with my bridge and antz's microcontroller. i sure hope it would be if not as successful, better than this week.

just now, i'm watching game ka na ba, and the guests are former child stars and matinee idols. the very first celebrity who qualified for the face-off was chuckie dreyfuss! haha!

wala lang. i remember me and the guys talk about what cool tshirt would you like happy days or spoofs to have. it was unanimous, not rene requiestas, not panchito nor ike lozada. everyone wanted a chuckie dreyfuss tshirt! hahaha!

i could say, he's quite knowledgable with the gay lingo. (look at the pic) haha! it's up to you to judge. :-p

red as wine

june 15... it's her birthday.

i got sick last year after our family swimming so i wasn't able to do anything for her. instead of me visiting her, it went the other way around. she was my nurse exactly a year ago. placed cold compress on my hot forehead, made calamansi juice and took my temerature whenever i needed it. how often could you snag a girlfriend like that? i am really lucky i have her. i need to do something for her to make her happy this year!

the day before, i dropped-by sm southmall to get her something. so, what should get her? accessories? a dress? cosmetics? what does a girlie-girl want? i got an excellent answer from my thesismate's girlfriend. "go to bodyshop. im sure she'll like anything from there." from there, it was easy, she always wanted to buy the cheek and lip stain but finds it expensive. i got her that as well as another idea...

what if i get her different pink lip products? then after that explain to her in a letter the significance of those items. hmmm, not bad. deciding on that idea, i got a strawberry lip balm from the same store and a cherry lip gloss from watsons. i wrote something like this in my letter...

"bi, i got you 3 gifts for your birthday. lahat yan pink and puro mga pampaganda ng lips! sabi mo kasi hindi ka nagagandahan sa lips mo but in fact, favorite ko yan lalo na i-kiss! and siyempre, mas happy tayo kung aalagaan mo yan mabuti. =)"

it's not vervatim but that's the idea.

she was scheduled for an interview early that morning so i decided to grab that opportunity to go to their house and leave the gift on her bed just like what she did on my last birthday (so sweeet!) i arrived at their place just in time. i left their place and texted her. she told me that she's already near st. andrew's! haha. during that time, i was also somewhere near st. andrew's. WHEW! that was close! i told her that i was on my way to school (i AM actually). minutes later she texted me...

"BIBI!!! =)"

after school, i headed to their house for merienda-dinner. we spent the time talking to each other (as well as some cuddling) and eating (thank god for palm cards!). we also emptied a bottle of wine via "up the river, down the river" drinking game. boy, was i red or what?! the night was capped by a mild rain which may be symbolical for us. it really was a perfect day!

i woke up this morning reading a text from her...

"=) sun ko, it's the best bday i ever had because i spent it with u. ur my greatest possession, ur all ihave... but definitely im very much contented bcoz ur everything 2 me. =) grabe, ntapos yung bday ko n umuulan.. it adds joy to my day. sna and2 c da2 pra complete n. =) gudnyt bibi. mahal na mahal kita. muah!"

answer key (as told by seis)

6 said...

re: 5_5_5_5 = 30

kung pwede maglagay ng mga parentheses...

5 x [5 + (5 / 5)] = 30

kung d pwede, haha d ko pa naiisip uli :P

re: send + more = money

haha alam ko nasagutan ko na to dati e... mejo trial and error pa sya pero ngayon (trial and error parin yung ibang part haha)

- s e n d
- m o r e
m o n e y

(pang align lang yung "-" ehehe) anyways,

ang M dapat ay 1 dahil simpleng rason lang, kung 2 meaning, ang S + 2 (or S + M) ay 20000+. Pero wala namang ganong klaseng addends. So M = 1

Since M = 1, ang S natin ay magiging 9 (kasi kung 8 sya, 8 + 1 (or S + M), magiging sagot naman nya (yung M natin ay 1 na) 19000+. Mali nanaman yung addends hehe. So S = 9

Since may O na tayo (0 or zero), replace na natin yung nahanap na numerals:

- 9 e n d
- 1 0 r e
1 0 n e y

Since E + 0 = N, ibig sabihin nyan, may "nacarry" over na 1 mula sa N + R = E. So kakatrial and error ko (haha brute force to!) (actually merong rason pero haba explain e haha kakatamad), nahanap ko yung E = 5 so E + 1 = N, N = 6

- 9 5 6 d
- 1 0 r 5
1 0 6 5 y

6 + r = 5. Meaning 6 + 9 = 15 kaso hindi na pwede yung 9 kasi nagamit na sya sa letter s. So ang nearest na pwedeng gamitin ay 8 (pero kelangan may nacarry na 1 uli mula sa d + 5 = y. So r = 8

- 9 5 6 d
- 1 0 8 5
1 0 6 5 y

D at Y, sa mga natitirang numbers pa, ang pwedeng mag add sa 5 na magcacarry sya ng 1 ay, 7 na lang (hahah!). So d = 7. So kung d = 7, y = 2 (o 12 dahil nacarry yung 1 uli).

so:
S = 9
M = 1
O = 0
N = 6
E = 5
Y = 2
D = 7
R = 8

or

- 9 5 6 7
- 1 0 8 5
1 0 6 5 2

ps: kung mali ako, hahah "pahiya konti hahah L-)"

the end

108 stars of destiny x 5 = 540

i finally had the time to finish the only rpg i played for more than a year, suikoden 5. thanks to this long weekend. it took me 72 game-hours to do it although that ain't the REAL amount of time i used up. in reality, it was more of 2 months. about 2-3 hours every other day. the game was really one of the best ps2 produced (at least for me). i enjoyed it (both gameplay and storyline) more thn suikoden 2 which is said to be the best in the series. i dunno...

I was quite productive this day. Woke up at around 7am for the planned jogging and badminton game with Chai. Since there are no nearby parks in our place, we decided to jog around Golden Haven Memorial Park. After all, it's still a park! Although I have been pumping iron for the past 3 weeks, it wasn't really complete. Due to lack of gym equipment and insufficiency of time, I opt to not do cardio exercises. The last time I recall doing REAL cardio workout was that trip to calinisan a month ago. Slash gee gee.

Playing badminton is really hard when the wind is blowing against you. No matter what amount of force you apply on the shuttlecock, it's still light enough for the wind to divert. That made us pick-up the ball more times than we hit it. Result, a better cardio workout!

After the tiring game, I headed back home only to receive work from my mum. She made me do the check register she failed to finish since May 30. Nothing much really. Time flies especially when you're multi-tasking. While doing the check register, I was reading blogs and other net articles, checking mail, playing ragnarok and doing a favor for my tita. Before I knew it, it was lunch already. I had two pieces fried galunggong and a helping of pinakbet. YUMMY!

I took a shower after eating and rode a trike to Tita's school. I was scheduled to give a refresher course on powerpoint and presentations to the schools teachers. Imagine, me, teaching teachers. BTS! 'Steeeeg! I promised Tita to do this because she bought an LCD projector for the school's (our family's) use. I'm like the school's technical consultant, pursuading Tita to buy the latest gadgets by relating them to her school's needs. LOL!

The teachers were very attentive... hmm... let's say, like good students. They were actually listening to me, even jotting down notes especially my tips. I felt good doing that session. I also sharpened my public speaking skills and boosted my confidence (if it actually needed anymore boosting). At siyempe, at the end, I was well compensated. The same rate an instructor receives daily. :p

I actually enjoy speaking in front of people, even more alone. I like to share my thoughts and know-how to others. I like to argue even for fun and this is why we (my gal) usually fight. LOL. I am among a family of teachers. My mom and dad's elder sister both own a school, from kindergarten to highschool. A few of my cousins teach for them, even some of my 3rd degree relatives are teachers. Maybe this is my calling. Does Professor Droz sound good to you? Hmmmmm...

OMEN

i just realized... toaday is june 6, 2006

it's the day of the beast!

severed in silence

last saturday i watched pigs being butchered. first, you hit 'em with a heavy piece of wood at the back of the head several times until it stops sqealing (hu-paw, huhu-paw-huhu-paw!) thrust the knife to its throat for the finishing blow, then you skin 'em with a jungle bolo. it was awesome! (makes me wanna be a butcher myself) SICK!

i was in mindoro that weekend to attend my cousin's wedding. they had seven pigs prepared for the reception. seven different preparations of pork. embotido, menudo, calderata, lechon, sweet and sour, chopsuey and afritada; all drenched in heart-friendly pork juices. LOL

after the reception, we tried to look for a beach resort we drove for miles and miles, dead-end after dead-end. roads were closed due to felled trees and posts care of the last typhoon. because of that, resorts had no electricity. too bad. well, back to the old house we go.
