math problem:
i received a simple math txt yesterday. it goes like this...
5 _ 5 _ 5 _ 5 = 30
fill in the blanks the appropriate operators to make the mathematicl statement true.
it was a synch. i gave it to my dad, he felt insulted. he then gave me harder problem...
once there was a kid from the province who went to manila to study. he started out good but was slowly demotivated to learn. he started to skip classes and instead play billards. his father learned about this so he decided not to give his son money for the next semester. the son felt bad and promised his father to do good this time. he told his father,
"dad, please send me more money. i want to continue studying."
"in one condition, answer this math cryptogram"

kung pwede maglagay ng mga parentheses...
5 x [5 + (5 / 5)] = 30
kung d pwede, haha d ko pa naiisip uli :P

haha alam ko nasagutan ko na to dati e... mejo trial and error pa sya pero ngayon (trial and error parin yung ibang part haha)

(pang align lang yung "-" ehehe) anyways,
ang M dapat ay 1 dahil simpleng rason lang, kung 2 meaning, ang S + 2 (or S + M) ay 20000+. Pero wala namang ganong klaseng addends. So M = 1
Since M = 1, ang S natin ay magiging 9 (kasi kung 8 sya, 8 + 1 (or S + M), magiging sagot naman nya (yung M natin ay 1 na) 19000+. Mali nanaman yung addends hehe. So S = 9
Since may O na tayo (0 or zero), replace na natin yung nahanap na numerals:

Since E + 0 = N, ibig sabihin nyan, may "nacarry" over na 1 mula sa N + R = E. So kakatrial and error ko (haha brute force to!) (actually merong rason pero haba explain e haha kakatamad), nahanap ko yung E = 5 so E + 1 = N, N = 6

6 + r = 5. Meaning 6 + 9 = 15 kaso hindi na pwede yung 9 kasi nagamit na sya sa letter s. So ang nearest na pwedeng gamitin ay 8 (pero kelangan may nacarry na 1 uli mula sa d + 5 = y. So r = 8

D at Y, sa mga natitirang numbers pa, ang pwedeng mag add sa 5 na magcacarry sya ng 1 ay, 7 na lang (hahah!). So d = 7. So kung d = 7, y = 2 (o 12 dahil nacarry yung 1 uli).
so:
S = 9
M = 1
O = 0
N = 6
E = 5
Y = 2
D = 7
R = 8

haha. pareho tayo ng approach. kinuha ko din yung 1,0,9 sa deductive reasoning. tapos yung n=e+1 yung iba, obvious na. asteeg no?
